Chapter 13

Rayton and Teasquare had known one another from tertiary level at university. They had belonged to the same fraternity, although they hadn’t pursued the same career. Teasquare was an average guy at school. He majored in economics and accounting, but he had dropped out of his B.com degree to do a Human Resource Development Diploma. When it was time to party the likes of Rayton, Teasquare, Jeffrey, Hugo and Adam would meet, and amidst an atmosphere of mischievousness and rascality, they were well known for chasing the girls around campus.

Teasquare worked as a senior manager in the human resource department at the local bank in a shopping mall located within a residential area. He grew up in a rich family and his father owned more than five retail shops. He was a fat boy when he was a child and he had slimmed-down on reaching puberty at around the age of fifteen. He had the character of a follower He couldn’t make bold decisions, he lacked initiative, he was always obedient to rules, he found it difficult to make friends, and when he found some friends, he was often misled by them.

The fact was, that he had low self-esteem during his teenage years. Growing up, he would buy friends by flashing money around and such friendships didn’t last long. His parents would criticize his so-called friends, and they would help him to break contact with them. He was soft spoken, calm, loyal and orderly, he was very cautious and conventional, and he always respected the decisions of authority. He was very content with the status quo. Rayton and his friends accepted him into their group and they had helped him to move into bigger more well-known social circles and in the process, they boosted his self-esteem.

Growing up he became fond of body building, solely to gain an advantage over his peers and thus he became a magnet to the girls. After he had passed his first semester money became accessible to him and sometimes he would sponsor parties from start to finish. He made it through tertiary level as his father was very strict and persistent in pushing him in the right direction. He was never left alone to be told that he would soon take over the family businesses.

His success could be attributed to his group of friends, who were party animals but nevertheless intelligent and focused. He was made to master work and play. It might also be that he was just fortunate enough to avoid disaster. His characteristic behaviour of following instructions without questioning them could otherwise, have thrown him into a deep narrow dark pit to drown.

“Let me have your number Dude,” said Rayton.

“Yeah, yeah, why don’t we just start where we left off, Dude?” answered Teasquare, handing over his personal business card to Rayton.

“That’s great! You also have a business card Dude?” asked Rayton, scrutinizing the card.

“No Dude, that is the identification card that we use for our marketing to our customers at work
