A World Changed

At first glance, the new Hierophant looked like an ordinary person. That had been Allen’s impression from the moment he’d first laid eyes on them, but looking closer now, he knew without a shadow of a doubt that there was no way they could be human.

“Well, it’s no surprise, but it seems we won’t be having a friendly chat after all. For what it’s worth, I do genuinely intend to treat the two of you cordially.” The new Hierophant shrugged lightly.

Allen, however, kept his gaze fixed squarely on them. No matter how friendly their manner, the being before them existed on an entirely different plane. With values that were so fundamentally different, taking their words at face value would be too dangerous.

More importantly, there was a very strong possibility that they were the one behind everything. There was no telling what they might do. Caution was the only sane choice.

“Well...I’d like you two to treat me politely as well, but I suppose that part will come in time. For now, let’s head inside. Whatever your intentions may be, I’m sure they don’t involve you standing around talking in a hallway.”
