This volume assesses Friedrich Schleiermacher's contribution to the theory and practice of translation two hundred years after his classic text 'On the Different Methods of Translating' (1813). It brings together scholars from Philosophy and Translation Studies who offer close readings of Schleiermacher's ideas, placing them in the context of his hermeneutics and examining their relevance today as well as their potential to inspire further work.
