The term‘Medium Aevum,’ coined in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, suggested a broad construction of the medieval period. Since the Enlightenment, historical views of the Middle Ages have generated new forms of cultural memory, as reflected in contemporary art works that show the continued presence of the Middle Ages.
