< >Nemesianus’s didactic poem about hunting, written in 283-84 AD, is based in its structure and conception on Vergil’sGeorgics, the classical model for the genre. In its presentation of hunting as a leisure sport, theCynegetica provides an un-heroic counterpoint to earlier hunting poems. This new critical edition includes extensive and detailed philological commentary. It also considers broader questions, such as the relationship to cynegetic literature, genre-related elements, and the author’s self-perception.
